Keenlyside to perform at Union's Memorial Chapel - The Daily Gazette
Dec 10, 2018Union College's Memorial Chapel.Keenlyside's performance, one of the highlights of the Union College Concert Series, will include accompaniment on the piano by Malcolm Martineau, a native of Scotland who has also played at venues all over the world.Keenlyside, born in August of 1959 in London, will sing songs composed by Brahms, Poulenc and Schubert. The concert will also include a rendition of "Histoires naturelies, a 1906 work by Maurice Ravel that sets five poems by Jules Renard to music for voice and piano.Keenlyside, winner of the 2011 Muscial America's Vocalist of the Year Award, has performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and the Bavarian and Vienna State Opera houses to name just a few.He has also sung with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the London Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He was made a Commander of the British Empire in 2003, and won the 2006 Olivier Award for outstanding achievement in opera.His operatic roles include Prospero in "The Tempest," Papageno in "The Magic Flute," and Posa in "Don Carlo."Martineau, born in Edinburgh in February of 1960, was given an honorary doctorate by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2004, and was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2016.Tickets for the concert are $35-$30 for adults and free for children and students.
